The Chicano Federation provides plenty of opportunities for head start employment and has an especially strong need for qualified people to fill pre school teacher jobs.
Pre school teachers play an important role in a child’s development. By using playful instruction, they introduce children to a number of important topics, from reading and writing to science and social studies.
The main goal of these teachers is to advance the intellectual and physical development of the children they teach so those children are prepared to attend regular school. By the time they leave preschool, children should be able to perform a variety of basic tasks and participate in a social setting.
Pre school teachers also work hard to support a safe and healthy learning environment. They spend time nurturing the social and emotional development of children and encourage families to become involved with their children’s schooling.
Those interested in a pre school teacher job with the Chicano Federation should have an associate or advanced degree in early childhood education; an associate or advanced degree in a related field and experience teaching pre school-aged children; or a baccalaureate degree, a passing grade on an early childhood content exam, and experience working for Teach For America.
All applicants should have at least one year of experience working as a preschool teacher or at least two years of experience working as a teacher’s aide in a pre school setting. The Chicano Federation also prefers to hire those who are bilingual and bi-cultural.
Pre school teachers also must have a California Child Development Teacher Permit; CPR and pediatric First Aid certificates; food handler certificate; proof of a physical exam and tuberculosis clearance; and a fingerprint and child abuse index clearance.
